Vercel released AI SDK 7.0.130 on October 7, 2026, with two targeted changes for streaming agent applications: aborted runs now cancel an outstanding stream and reject pending result promises, while provider decision refusals are surfaced as refusal answers.

The cancellation fix matters when an application stops a generation because a user clicks cancel, a request times out or an agent run is superseded. Before this patch, work waiting on a result could remain pending after the abort signal fired. The release notes say the SDK now rejects those promises and cancels the pending stream, giving application code a cleaner termination path instead of leaving unresolved work behind.

The second change updates the provider abstraction so a model’s decision refusal is reported as a refusal answer. That gives downstream applications a typed outcome they can handle separately from ordinary text, tool results or transport errors. The provider change also rolls through the associated gateway and provider-utility packages.

AI SDK is Vercel’s provider-agnostic TypeScript toolkit for AI applications and agents. Its repository is licensed under Apache 2.0, and the current documentation lists Node.js 22 or newer as the local runtime requirement. Developers can install the main package with npm install ai; direct provider packages remain optional when bypassing Vercel’s default gateway.

This is a patch release, not a new agent architecture. The practical upgrade case is strongest for teams that stream long-running generations, expose cancellation controls or need refusal events to flow consistently through provider integrations. As with any runtime patch, teams should test cancellation handlers and UI state transitions against their own provider mix.
