Atlassian and OpenAI announced an expanded partnership on October 6, 2026, aimed at bringing OpenAI models and enterprise work context together. OpenAI says its models will power agents across Atlassian’s platform and Rovo, which connects information about projects, people, documents and decisions through Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph.

The companies also point to ways customers can connect ChatGPT and Codex to Atlassian work. Atlassian says its MCP-based integration can provide relevant Jira work items, Confluence content and development context, subject to the permissions of the signed-in user. Atlassian describes these model-powered reasoning features and MCP connections as available now. It says deeper workflows—such as agents taking Jira work items, running tests and synchronizing results—are still being designed.

The announcement builds on a relationship dating to 2023. OpenAI says more than 3,000 Atlassian developers use Codex, and Atlassian says its teams use OpenAI models within Rovo. Those adoption figures are company-reported. The announcement does not provide a separate price for the partnership features; access depends on the relevant Atlassian and OpenAI products and account permissions.

The practical change is tighter access to project context inside AI-assisted work. That can reduce manual context gathering, but it also makes existing access controls and human review important. Atlassian says the MCP server acts as a proxy and respects the signed-in user’s permissions.
